The Northwest Alabama Education Research and Inservice Center at the University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM) Secondary Science Biology Specialist. AMSTI is the Alabama State Department of Education’s (ALSDE) initiative to improve STEM teaching statewide including improvements in individualized and integrated STEM subjects. ASIM is the high school science component of AMSTI. Regional assignments (schools/districts and grade levels/content areas) will be based on regional needs and are subject to change based on regional data. Salary will be based on education, experience, and the current AMSTI salary schedule for 11-month specialists.
*This is a grant-funded position. Initial and continued employment in this position is contingent upon funding by the sponsoring agency.* Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Minimum qualifications include: a bachelor’s degree in science, science education, and/or a science related field is required; Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred–preferably in science or science education; a minimum of three years of science teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school (5years preferred); Knowledge of and experience with AMSTI or ASIM programs is highly preferred; teacher leader or instructional coaching experience is preferred; a valid Alabama Teachers’ Certification in Secondary Science is required; clear status with FBI and ABI fingerprinting processes is required; and a current, valid driver’s license is required.
