Muscle Shoals Alumnae Area Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, a sorority committed to service, social action, sisterhood and scholarship is thrilled to unveil its annual May Week activities. These Spring activities promise to captivate the hearts and minds of the Shoals and Franklin County area residents with a week-long series of events dedicated to education, mental health awareness, community service and empowerment. Taking place from April 24 to May 6, this year’s May Week will feature a variety of impactful activities designed to engage and uplift the community.
May Week 2025.

Kicking off April 24, the mental health fair at University of North Alabama, “It’s Okay to Say I Am Not Okay.” The Student Counseling Service at UNA will present informative information to the students about mental health resources offer by the university. There will be several mental health activities stations set up. Texas Roadhouse will feature line dancing encouraging everyone to let loose and embrace the rhythm. 

Later that evening at the Gulliot Center on UNA campus will be a thought-provoking panel discussion on mental health. “Do not Suffer in Silence: My Struggle is Real and Yours is Too,” offers a six panelists symposium that tackle mental health issues. This year’s moderator will be Demetria Green, from WAAY 31 morning news anchor.
Throughout the week, events will highlight charitable causes, cultural enrichment, and community service, including:  
* May 1- “Strike Cancer Pin Down for St. Jude” Charity Bowling Event at Lauderdale Lanes, Florence.
* May 2- “Dancing in the Street: Dance with Me Tonight,” in downtown Sheffield. There will be a live DJ and a YMCA dance instructor on hand teaching international dances.
* May 3 – “Gospel in the Park: Never Lost a Battle, A tribute to Indigo Fort,” at the Willie Green Center in Tuscumbia.This event is sponsored by WZZA radio station. The year’s event will feature the Orr Sisters along with many of gospel groups. In addition to the musical program, the event will feature food trucks, providing an opportunity for neighbors to come together, share a meal, and forge new connections.

* May 4 – Scholarship program “Be Encouraged, there is Hope,” at First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. As we gather to announce the recipients of both the scholarship and essay awards.

* May 5 – “Eat Wings, Raise Funds” at Buffalo Wild Wings in Florence.

* May 6 – Book Giveaway in Franklin County & a no social media challenge, “I Can Make You Put Your Phone Down, a biblical discussion from Proverbs 15 at Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.  

This year’s May Week underscores Delta Sigma Theta’s mission of social action, public service, and educational advancements, with a special emphasis on mental health awareness, fundraising for critical causes, and youth empowerment.  All events are free to the public, and everyone is welcome and encourage to come out for this week-long celebration.
