The Shoals Diversity Center announces their Annual Scholarship for LGBTQIA+ high school students graduating in Colbert, Lauderdale and Franklin counties for the 2023 academic year. You are also eligible if you are a UNA or NWSCC Freshman enrolled. 

The Vafeas Scholarship: In Honor of Reagan is a $2,000 Scholarship that will be awarded to one eligible LGBTQIA+ Applicants that must be graduating in 2023 in Alabama from a high school in Lauderdale, Colbert, or Franklin counties (including city schools located within those counties) to attend NWSCC or UNA in the fall of 2023.

The scholarship will total $2,000 and will be funded to the recipient with proof of enrollment in UNA or NWSCC. Applicants must be willing to go through an Interview process.

The deadline to Apply is April 1, 2023 at 5:00 PM CST.

The recipient will be announced by May 1, 2023. You will be notified by email before the public announcement.

The Shoals Diversity Center is the only LGBTQIA+ Center in North Alabama. Our core mission is to inspire individuals, as well as communities to Support, Educate and Advocate with and for the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Queer community at large. We offer in person support groups for mental health support for all LGBTQIA+ individuals in North Alabama. We raise money for local grants that pay for professional counseling on a referral basis to local Affirming LPC in the Shoals. Spring and Fall Transgender Health Clinics with telehealth options.
