About Us

UNA is a regional, doctoral-level, state-assisted institution of higher education located in Florence, Alabama and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. UNA was named one of America’s “Great Colleges to Work For in 2020, 2022, and 2024” by the Chronicle of Higher Education, the nation’s premier publication for professionals in the academic world. With an enrollment of over 10,000 students, UNA offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through four academic colleges: arts, sciences, and engineering; business and technology; education and human sciences; and nursing and health professions. UNA is one of the most picturesque college campuses in Alabama, occupying a 140-acre pedestrian-friendly campus in Florence’s historic district. Florence is located within a four-city area on the banks of the Tennessee River known as the “Shoals”, which is steeped in arts, culture, and entertainment—and is home to the famous Muscle Shoals sound. The University’s Athletics programs are NCAA Division I and compete within the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) save for the Football program which is a founding member of the United Athletic Conference (UAC).
