Benefits Analyst

Primary Purpose

The Benefits Analyst manages multiple aspects of the benefits plans and programs (e.g., medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account (HSA), dependent care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), disability, Life/Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), 401k, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Tuition Reimbursement Program.) to support accuracy and timeliness This position assures compliance with the organization's policies and practices and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

 

Key accountabilities

  • Manages multiple aspects of the benefits plans and programs (e.g., medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account (HSA), dependent care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), disability, Life/Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), 401k, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Tuition Reimbursement Program.) to support accuracy and timeliness.
  • Serves as point of contact for benefits inquiries and troubleshooting to maintain a positive work environment by researching, analyzing, identifying root cause, and resolving issues and discrepancies in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Plan related issues addressing eligibility, compliance, and annual audit requirements.
  • Provide analytical expertise to support the administration of the benefits programs, practices, and policies to meet the changing needs of the organization.
  • Leads the annual open enrollment for benefits by coordinating materials (e.g., open enrollment guides, summary of benefits and coverage handouts, summary plan descriptions, etc.), and other related materials and meetings.
  • Install approved new plans or changes to existing plans by preparing announcement materials and other media for communicating plans to employees. Conduct employee meetings and arrange for enrollment.
  • Monitors 401k changes, distributions, loans, hardships, etc.  Prepares timely and accurate reports for the 401k Retirement Plan as needed.
  • Supports the audit preparation of the 5500 filing and discrimination testing, in accordance with plan documents, established policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct new hire and benefits orientations and explain benefits enrollment process.
  • Process one or more of our multiple payrolls on a weekly basis and be back-up on the other payrolls.
  • Limited support for FMLA, Short-term disability, Long-term disability, and Worker’s Compensation as needed
  • Complies with internal control procedure and Sarbanes Oxley procedures for Pension and Payroll.  Responsible for maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley testing documentation for areas of responsibilities.
  • Execute assigned projects including data collection, testing, analysis, and reporting as needed; 
  • Maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Responsible for weekly and monthly invoices and billing.
  • Ensure compliance of ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and IRS regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains employee confidence by keeping benefit information confidential and assure confidentiality and security of records and information

 

Leadership competencies, technical skills requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or other related field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in benefits or other HR related field
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task use sound judgment, and prioritize as necessary.
  • Requires strong and project management skills. Computer analytical skills proficiency and technical aptitude with a mastery of required Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to work in a team, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational and self-management skills are essential to the success of this position along with proven communication capabilities in both group and individual settings
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, ability to relate effectively and tactfully with all levels of the organization.
