STARTING ANNUAL BASE SALARY BASED ON CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • NON-CERTIFIED WITH NO EXPERIENCE $45,438.73
  • CERTIFIED WITH LESS THAN ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE $47,322.93
  • CERTIFIED WITH 1-2 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE $49,285.25
  • CERTIFIED WITH 3-4 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE $51,328.93
  • CERTIFIED WITH 4 OR MORE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE $53,457.34
The position of firefighter is an entry-level position. This position serves to combat, extinguish, and prevent fires in answering emergency calls and in the operation and routine maintenance of departmental equipment, apparatus, and quarters. Respond to all required emergency calls performing Emergency medical service to protect life and property. Performs Fire Prevention activities and company pre-plans. Firefighter/EMT position is directly below that of a Firefighter/Driver Grade PS9.

ATTACH THE FOLLOWING IN THE ATTACHMENT SECTION OF THIS APPLICATION:
  • Highschool Diploma or GED Certificate
  • College Transcripts if applicable
  • DD214 if applicable
  • CPAT Certification good through October 1, 2026, if applicable
  • Three letters of recommendation addressed to the Civil Service Board to speak on behalf of your character and work ethic (not from a family member).
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING DATES & TIMES:
CPAT and written test will be held at Florence Fire Training Center, 4648 Chisholm Road, and will start at 8:30 am. An approved physical statement, signed by a doctor must be submitted “prior” to taking the CPAT.
  • Wednesday, April 1, 8:30 am – CPAT Orientation
  • Friday, May 1, 8:30 am – 1st CPAT
  • Friday, May 15, 8:30 am – 2nd CPAT
  • Friday, May 29, 8:30 am – 3rd CPAT
  • Monday, June 8, 8:30 am – Written Exam
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
You have up to three attempts to pass the CPATThe fee for the CPAT is $25.00 cash for each test taken (to be collected on the day of the test).

There is a Civil Service Fee of $1.50 cash for all applicants taking the written test (to be collected on the day of the test).
