Job Description

Interstate Billing Service is located in Decatur, Alabama.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Customer Service, and in compliance with established policies and procedures, the Customer Service Clerk performs customer service functions for the Customer Service Department.  Functions may include such tasks as customer service duties, collection efforts, data entry, typing correspondence to dealers and customers, fulfilling customer requests, and notifying management of any potential problems.           


  • To perform routine customer service duties requiring extensive phone and/or email usage.

  • Must operate one or more standard office machines such as computer, calculator, fax machine, and copier.

  • Assist customer with questions and problems regarding accounts.

  • Contact delinquent accounts by telephone or email to determine reasons for delinquency.

  • Contact dealers and customers regarding disputes and credit dues and follow up with written correspondence.

  • Maintain good dealer/customer relations.

  • Work transfer balances and dealers off service as assigned.

  • Apply payments and credits as necessary to balance accounts.

  • Receive and record data from dealers and customers.

  • Recommends the transfer of invoices, refunds, and charge backs; regardless of amount, subject to the approval of upper level employees.

  • Supply copies of invoices to customers upon their request.

  • Perform research as necessary as pertaining to credits and deductions made in error.

  • Answer WATS calls from customers and/or dealers to address any questions they may have.

  • Provides support for the company’s sales efforts, which include promoting company services as opportunities arise.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Generally good, with little exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dust or other adverse factors.

  • Considerable effort and eyestrain from continued checking on the accuracy of all work leaving the department.




  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • Phone based customer service experience preferred



  • Excellent phone based customer service skills

  • The ability to accomplish multiple objectives in a fast paced environment

  • Strong communication and team-work skills

  • The ability to develop knowledge of bank product, services, and processes

  • The ability to develop a thorough understanding of bank specific software

  • The ability to operate basic office equipment

  • The ability to access information on the internet

  • Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Applications of Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Bilingual is a plus
