
Andrea N. Hunt is an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Mitchell-West Center for Social Inclusion at the University of North Alabama. She is a proud first-generation college graduate and was recently awarded the George Merida Huckaba Endowed Professorship for 2020-2021. Her teaching, research, and community efforts cover a range of interrelated topics including trauma, identity, inequality, and trauma-informed practices. Dr. Hunt is a public sociologist and court appointed special advocate. She works regularly with local judges, probation officers, mental health professionals, social workers, youth in juvenile detention, K-12 teachers, and adults in recovery. She is currently pursuing a degree in clinical mental health counseling to better support and advocate for her community.
Dr. Rachel Winston was born and raised in Tuskegee AL and has lived in Florence Alabama for over 20 years. Dr. Winston is a wife and mother of 3. She is a tenured Associate Professor in the UNA College of Nursing and is the Special Assistant to the VP of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Dr. Winston is also the coordinator for the UNA Children’s Respite Program. The respite program is open to local children with special needs, and their siblings. Dr Winston is passionate about supporting her community and helping others reach their potential.
