Join the Shoals Chamber for a panel, led by Dr. Butler Cain, featuring reporters and journalists from each of the local news outlets, TimesDaily, WAFF, WHNT and WAAY.
The media panelists will discuss topics ranging from "What is 'newsworthy'?" to "How do you get news covereage?" and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions during the panel.
Event will be held at Avalon Social in Muscle Shoals, and lunch will be provided by Smokin' Jalapeno. This Lunch & Learn is sponsored by Spectrum Reach.
Dr. Butler Cain, University of North Alabama
Dr. Butler Cain is Assistant Vice Provost for International Affairs and Director of Education Abroad at the University of North Alabama. He received a Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Alabama and holds Master’s degrees in Journalism and International Policy Management. Before transitioning into higher education, Dr. Cain worked professionally as a broadcast journalist, including a decade as news director of Alabama Public Radio.
Bernie Delinski, Times Daily
Bernie Delinski has been a reporter with the TimesDaily since 1990, and has a weekly “Bernie’s World” column. Before joining the TimesDaily, Bernie worked as a news reporter and a sportswriter for the Decatur Daily. He graduated from the University of North Alabama with a major in journalism.
DeAndria Turner, WAFF 48

She credits her journalism skills to the internships she was able to take advantage of throughout college, from our sister station WMC Action News 5, to NBC Dateline in New York City. DeAndria was also a weekend reporter at a local CBS affiliate in Columbus, Mississippi and worked for her student radio and news station. She was also apart of the prestigious UNC-CBC Diversity Fellowship in Raleigh, NC.
When she's not covering a story, DeAndria’s catching up on her favorite TV shows. DeAndria is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Jeremy Jackson, WHNT 19

Jeremy Jackson first joined the WHNT News 19 team as a multimedia production assistant in September 2014 and was promoted to videojournalist soon after. Beginning in June 2018 he worked as a photographer/editor for WGNO News, WHNT News 19’s sister station in New Orleans. There, he covered several severe weather events including Tropical Storm Gordon and Hurricanes Michael and Barry. He returned to WHNT News 19 in July 2019 where he worked as the senior videojournalist before being promoted to be the Shoals Bureau Reporter in October.
Jeremy is a graduate of the University of North Alabama where he earned a bachelor’s degree in film and digital media production.
Jeremy also has a passion for photography and in his spare time, can be found hiking or exploring different parts of the Tennessee Valley. He also loves weightlifting, rugby, kickball, and beach volleyball.
Nicole Zedek, WAAY 31

Nicole grew up in the beautiful mountain town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Her passion for journalism grew as she traveled to all seven continents and learned about the power of storytelling and how it connects people from all across the globe.
Nicole went to Chapman University in Orange, California to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Political Science. During her time at Chapman, she interned with Dateline NBC and Nightly News with Lester Holt where she thrived in the fast-paced news environment. Nicole is looking forward to starting her career in Rocket City and building connections within the community.
When she’s not reporting, Nicole loves to travel, backpack, cook, and explore the Huntsville food scene!
