Is there STEM talent hiding in a school near you?

In some fields, such as science and engineering, women are an underrepresented part of the talent pool. For example, a recent NSF study found that among people ages 18 to 74 years, women made up half (51%) of the total U.S. population and about a third (35%) of people employed in STEM occupations.

This is not a question of aptitude, but rather of exposure and interest. According to an analysis of YouScience’s aptitude assessments, women have approximately the same aptitude for these roles as do men; it’s their lack of reported interest in those occupations that results in a shortfall. For example, women have:

  • 9.8x more aptitude for careers in Advanced Manufacturing than interest
  • 2.6x more aptitude for careers in Architecture & Construction than interest
  • 3.7x more aptitude for careers in Computers & Technology than interest

There are many reasons for the disparity, but talent isn’t one of them. If you’re in a male-dominated field and you’re facing a talent shortage, reaching out to nontraditional audiences such as women can make a remarkable difference in your results. The key is to reach them early, as they’re still learning about their options and deciding where to go.

NEWS  &  RESOURCES

Top 10 Best

Scholarship Search Platforms

It's not too early to begin the search for college scholarships!

Even if you have a good summer job, you likely won’t make enough to pay for college. You also might not have the money you need to cover your living expenses, textbooks and a dorm room.

That is why you need to look for scholarships that will cover some or all of those costs.

Scholarship programs often include funds that go unclaimed each year and offer money that you do not need to repay. As you start your career, you don’t want to worry about loans and how you will pay them when you have other bills to worry about.

Using college scholarship search platforms is the easiest way to find programs that you qualify for and learn how to get that money. We ranked the 10 best scholarship search platforms that you can use while planning for the future.  [Click below to get the list.]
