Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association Offers Scholarships to Alabama’s Community Colleges |

|
The AAMA and the Alabama Community College System are teaming up to help Alabamians interested in pursuing a technical education certificate or associate degree in preparation for a career related to the automotive manufacturing industry.  Seventy scholarships are available to residents interested in attending one of Alabama’s community colleges to train for careers in the state’s automotive manufacturing industry. The scholarships are the result of a partnership between the Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS).  The $4,000 scholarships are available to students enrolled in an Alabama community college program associated with automotive manufacturing careers. Interested high school seniors, residents interested in attending college, and current college students with at least a 2.5 GPA are invited to learn more and apply at the link below.  |

Is there STEM talent hiding in a school near you?In some fields, such as science and engineering, women are an underrepresented part of the talent pool. For example, a recent NSF study found that among people ages 18 to 74 years, women made up half (51%) of the total U.S. population and about a third (35%) of people employed in STEM occupations. This is not a question of aptitude, but rather of exposure and interest. Sheffield City Schools Career Coach / Public Relations Coordinator  "I am the new Career Coach / Public Relations Coordinator for Sheffield City Schools.  I spent 35 years as a reporter at the TimesDaily, where I covered a variety of beats, mainly education, health, non-profits and business.  The contacts I've made through the years have proven to be the most valuable resource of all in this new position as I work with students to help them determine their place in society after high school.  Workforce development is critical to what I do, in helping students prepare for job placement and careers. At every opportunity we involve students in community projects such as Sheffield's new "Center of the Shoals" campaign. A freshman student at SHS actually designed our logo.  Big things are happening in Sheffield City Schools and I expect our exposure to grow in the coming months as we begin new partnerships with area businesses and industries. I'm always looking for new partnerships and ways to involve our students in the Shoals business and industry community.  Please reach out with any opportunities in which our students could take part!!
