Get to Know Our

Career Technical Educators

Lauderdale County Schools

Co-op Coordinator

Cindy Davis is the Co-op Coordinator for Lauderdale County Schools (LCS).  She guides 11th and 12th grade students to do their very best in their Co-op employment, while preparing them for their future career path.

Cindy has 75 students this school year who are working in various jobs in the Tennessee Valley.  As the school year nears the end, her students have had an economic impact of $2,713,860.86 on our region. While in high school, these students have proven they are productive members of society.  This exemplifies the value of the hands-on experience gained in Career Technical Education and Co-op employment.

Cindy has been the LCS Co-op Coordinator for 10 years and sees that there is a great need for young people to be given the opportunity to experience workplace environments in which they were not previously permitted. Employers are now seeing the importance of meeting, mentoring and training their employees at an earlier age, so they will have a greater opportunity of retaining them in their future workforce.

LCS Career Technical Programs include:

  • Automotive Collision Repair
  • Automotive Service
  • Agriscience
  • Building Construction
  • Business
  • Cosmetology
  • Culinary Arts
  • Electrical Technology
  • Engineering
  • Family & Consumer Science
  • Health Science
  • Precision Machining
  • Teaching & Training
  • Welding

Employers, to discuss co-op opportunities at your company, please contact Cindy.

UPCOMING  EVENTS:

  • April 26 - Hiring Day / Job Fair for Allen Thornton students, held at the school.

 What is an Industry Cluster?

An industry cluster is a group of major industries in the region established to promote sustainability, profitability, and provide a forum for potential collaboration, resource sharing, and innovation between companies.

Why are Industry Clusters important to your business?

? Economic Development research has proven that strong industry clusters in a region enhance the growth opportunities for all partners involved.

? This type of collaboration builds local resiliency and encourages growth among the industries.

? The clusters enable businesses to work together to address similar employment and training needs in the region.

? Through these clusters, as needs are assessed, task forces are developed to work on projects and initiatives.

Your Money, Your Life! / Reality Check

VOLUNTEERS  NEEDED!

Reality Check / Your Money, Your Life is a personal finance simulation that gives students a taste of what it is like to make ends meet each month. Students are tasked with budgeting based on a given monthly income related to their preferred career choice. The students move through the simulation and “purchase” various needs and wants at different volunteer-staffed stations such as housing, cars, insurance, groceries, clothing, daycare, banking, insurance etc.

Two (2) remaining opportunities are coming up to help students learn how their education is connected to their career path, which is connected to their future finances, which is connected to their future quality of life. Join this fun, educational, personal finance simulation and help our future workforce learn how to budget their money!

Your Money, Your Life is a program of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, coordinated by the Lauderdale County office.  The Shoals Chamber partners with Extension to recruit volunteers and implement the program.

Fortify Your Talent Pipeline!

YouScience is a science-based, skills assessment to determine students' natural abilities and guide them to educational pathways and local careers that match their God-given talents. When assessed, most students have technical skills they never knew they had! See "Case Studies" below for evidence-based research.

YouScience provides employers a FREE platform to get your brand in front of your local future workforce.

In addition, you can use the new (paid) feature to list specific job titles to reach students who have the specific skills you hire, helping you build and maintain a sustainable talent pipeline that is critical for an organization's future performance.

The YouScience program closes the gap that exists in many industries by nurturing the pipeline with ready-to-work candidates.
